7-Zip compresses files with the LZMA algorithm, which is much more advanced than the WinRar archiver algorithm. In 7-Zip, you can create archives that are password protected (to decrypt a password of 17 characters it will take from 40 to 100 years), encrypt file names and of course create self-extracting SFX-archives. Encryption uses 256-bit cryptographic algorithm AES, which is one of the best encryption algorithms at the moment.
First of all, this archiver is valuable in its own format 7z. It is believed that this format has the highest compression ratio and is great for archiving large amounts of information (for example, especially large programs or games). Also supported formats: ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, LZH, CHM, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM and DEB. It is worth paying attention to frequent situations in which the compression ratio of the ZIP and GZIP formats in this program is an order of magnitude higher than that of competitors.
7-Zip is completely free of charge, and since this is not a frequent occurrence among programs of this kind, this fact is another good argument in its favor.
