Differences in types of licenses
- OEM versions intended for use by companies - assemblers of systems for installation on new PCs or for upgrading / modifying existing PCs (OEM - original equipment manufacturer or equipment manufacturer). Requires activation.
- Boxed versions (Retail) or FPP (full packaged product or fully packaged product) for retail sale and subsequent use by consumers. Requires activation.
- VL - Volume Licensing corporate licenses for organizations that require at least 5 licenses. Does not require activation.
There are no functional differences in the system between these types of licenses. Differences only in the cryptography of product keys and the activation requirement.
Differences between the Service Pack
= SP1 and SP1a - The difference is that in the latter there is no Microsoft Java machine. Also, in order to install Service Pack 3, you need to have SP1a installed, while with SP1 you can not do it.
= SP2 and SP2b - The latter contains the update KB911164, which modifies the behavior of ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer (in order to activate any ActiveX control, click "Click to activate and use this control"). In SP3, this update is missing. All SP2-distributions, now lying on MSDN, contain SP2b.
